Installing VMware Zimbra collaboration suite 8 on CentOS 6.3

VMware ZCS is available in many flavours:

1- on premises :

A- Network edition :  a paid edition available for 60 days evaluation .

  • virtual appliance : a prebuilt virtual appliance comes in OVA package , to reduce complexity of installation  and built with VMware studio .
  • Gzipped TGZ files  : for manual installation on one of the supported OSs : (Redhat , Suse enterprise , Ubuntu ) linux

B- Open source edition : free edition under ZPL license , available in TGZ files only .

2- Hosted : hosted by Zimbra service providers .

in this post I will be demonstrating how to install a single server of the open source edition of VMware ZCS 8.0 in a guest CentOS 6.3 VM , assuming you’ve already performed a minimal CentOS (64 bit) installation ( CentOS-6.3-x86_64-minimal.iso) ,you may need to configue DNS server  (for production environments) .

Cisco IOU web interface labs

In a previous post , I showed a step-by-step tutorial for deploying Cisco IOU web interface on Esxi host  , for those who are using this project , I’ve only converted  another IOU live CD CCIE R/S lab files (configuration files , Netmap , toplogy diagram  for INE vol1 , vol2 ,vol3  workbooks, and Narbik/Cisco360 )  to work with this project.

just  download the zip file  , import it directly without extraction , and enjoy .

Notes :

  • the project doesn’t contain the actual IOU images , it’s just a web interface .
  • Cisco IOU is for internal use only , distributing and using it outside Cisco is illegal , I am not a cisco employee so don’t ask for it .
  • if you’re using IOU web interface virtualized , always take snapshot of your VM to revert back any time when you’re getting troubles .

How to replace the boot firmware of VMware ESXi guest VMs with iPXE

all VMware products and all versions of its virtual hardware includes a PXE environment , However iPXE provides more features like : booting from HTTP ,  iSCSI SAN/NAS , support for DNS , interactive menu ,  and more , I’ve compiled and built and ROM images for VMware network interfaces from the official iPXE git respository you’ll need only to download the ROM images  and edit your Virtual machine .VMX file parameters.
